What Does Self-Care Mean to You?
The term self-care refers to how one actively protects and improves one's overall health and wellness, focusing on their mind, body, and spirit.
For the reasons we all are aware, self-care is acutely important. Nurturing our heart, mind, body, and spirit is critical to our longevity. Without our health, we have nothing.
The actions we choose to nurture and strengthen our wellbeing differ from person to person, since each of us is unique, and, therefore, have distinct activities that we like or dislike. It is important to find activities that you love and find meaningful so that you will continue to participate.
Why is Self-Care Important?
Self-care is not just important, it is necessary. It is reflective of one's inner self-belief and self-value, because when we do not take adequate time to engage in activities that help and heal us, we are ignoring our health and disrespecting ourselves.
There is a direct link between those who spend time doing things that cause them to feel healthier and more powerful and their immune system, blood pressure, heart health, weight, anxiety levels, attitude and mood, performance, and much more.
Given all of the amazing benefits of self-care, we know that it is the opposite of selfishness. Caring for oneself is a great strategy as far as preventative health and long-term sustenance.
Moreover, you are not the only one who gains from these activities, everyone you love and interact with will also derive the positive outcome of self-care activities.
